Hey fellas, long time no see! Finally I touched this blog again. It's been a while. I barely stepped here last year in 2013. In fact, my last post was dated early October 2012. OMG, that's a year without a single post!

Despite that, today I am finally posting again, yeaay! This time I'm gonna write about my recent experience. So recently I've been asked by my room-neighbour-mate to help him. He needs to scan a document, and his roommate has this "Canon CanoScan LiDE 25 (or LiDE25 ?)" scanner. He used windows 8.1 OS, same as mine. The scanner wasn't detected there. He already tried to look for the appropriate driver on Canon's website, yet he still unable to find one. The website said that there is no driver available - so maybe it was included in the OS or no driver is needed or something. However, 8.1 device manager stated that a CanoScan device was detected in "other devices" section, but it can't be used because no driver was available - which contradicts with the information on the website.

From prior experience, I then tried to use the driver from older version of the OS, i.e. wind*ws 7. Fortunately, after some trials, it finally worked! Here is what to be done in sequence to get it working:

1. Visit Canon's support site for CanoScan LiDE25 here. Then select the "Drivers & Software" section.
2. Choose "Windows 7" as the operating system, x32 or x64 depends on your machine. (windows 8.1, which is selected by default in my case, won't have the appropriate driver to be downloaded).
3. Download the TWAIN driver from the driver tab and CanoScan toolbox from the software tab.
4. Install the driver in compatibility mode for Windows 7. (To do this, just right click the file, choose Properties --> Compatibility Tab --> check "Run this program in compatiblity mode for" --> choose Windows 7 --> ok)
5. Install the toolbox also in Windows 7 compatibility mode.

And that's it! Now try to unplug and replug the scanner, you'll notice some voice from the scanner, which indicates that it is now detected by your computer. To scan, just use the CanoScan Toolbox software, you can see many scanning options you can choose of there. The scan button on the scanner may also work now, I haven't tried that tough.

*If you experienced "Unable to select TWAIN source" when trying to scan with CanoScan Toolbox, this possibly mean that your driver is not compatible with the software. I've experienced this before, using the newest CanoScan Toolbox (i.e. version 5), but with the same driver, and it didn't work. Just downgrade to the appropriate version of CanoScan Toolbox that lies on the Windows 7 Software tab (version 4.9.3.2), and you should be fine!

Alright, enough for now. Hope this helps. It's kinda like my first full english post here, it isn't that bad, is it? Feel free to give comments, about my english or about the post, basically anything!

See you next post! :)
